Constantine Zakhartchenko (1900- ) was an aeronautical engineer during the twentieth century. A native of Lublin, Poland, Zakhartchenko immigrated to the United States in 1922 and worked for numerous American aviation companies and federal agencies between the 1920s and 1960s, including McDonnell Aircraft Corporation (1943-1948) and the National Bureau of Standards (1949-1956). After World War II the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) was charged with the task of following developments in computing. In response, NBS began to index and abstract books, journals, reports and other literature covering a broad range of computer-related topics beginning in the mid-1940s.
